Some travellers can transit through Australia without a transit visa. What conditions must be met? Which travellers are concerned?
If you come from an eligible country (see list below), you can transit through Australia without an Australian visa provided you meet the following criteria:
- arrive in Australia by plane
- have an airline ticket confirming that you will leave Australia by plane within 8 hours of your arrival
- have valid travel documents to enter the country
- not need to clear immigration or leave the airport transit lounge for any reason before boarding your connecting flight
If you are from an eligible country but need to go through immigration (to collect or transfer baggage on your connecting flight, for example), you will need an Australian transit visa. Each airport has its own specificities. For more information, click on this link.
